Fine hair with no volume: what works and what makes it worse

Fine hair has a thinner fibre, so anything that stays on it weighs twice as much as it would on thick hair. That is why it looks full of body when freshly washed and flat three hours later.

Short answer: Fine hair loses volume mainly because of the weight of what stays at the roots: oils, silicones and rich conditioners. What helps is a shampoo that cleans the roots well, a light conditioner only from mid-lengths to ends, and drying the roots first with your head upside down. A cosmetic does not increase the number of hairs.

In short

  • Fine hair loses volume mainly because of weight: oils, silicones and rich conditioners at the roots.
  • What helps is a shampoo that cleans the roots well, a light conditioner only from mid-lengths to ends, and drying the roots first.
  • A cosmetic gives more body and movement to the hair you have; it does not increase the number of hairs.

What takes away volume

  • Conditioner on the roots. It is the most common mistake. Always from mid-lengths to ends.
  • Rich products. Heavy masks used twice a week, oils on the lengths or too much leave-in cream.
  • Built-up residue. Dry shampoo every day without washing in between leaves the roots loaded.
  • Drying downwards. If you dry in the direction your hair falls, it stays stuck to your head.

What works

  • Cleaning the roots well. VOLUMINIX cleanses and adds body with hydrolysed keratin, caffeine and zinc PCA.
  • Conditioning without weight. BLOOM SOFT detangles and softens while keeping movement.
  • Drying with your head upside down for the first few minutes, and finishing with cool air.
  • Dry shampoo on the roots, not the lengths, and only on the days in between: DRY SHAMPOO leaves no white residue.
  • A deep cleanse once a week so that nothing builds up.

Realistic expectations

A shampoo does not change how thick your hair is: that is genetics. What it does change is how much weight your hair is carrying and how the roots behave, and you notice that from the first wash and especially from the third onwards.

If you want both steps together, the Volumising Ritual costs 29% less than buying them separately. The full selection is in fine hair.

Fine, thin or limp: not the same thing

What it means What helps
Fine Each hair has a small diameter Light products and clean roots
Thin There is less hair density If it is a recent change, see your dermatologist
Limp Straight hair that hangs without movement Drying with the roots lifted and no added weight

A routine for fine hair

Step How
Shampoo A shampoo that cleans the roots without leaving weight, such as VOLUMINIX, with keratin and caffeine, two or three times a week.
Conditioner Light and only from mid-lengths to ends: BLOOM SOFT.
Deep cleanse If you use a lot of styling product, RESET WASH once a week.
Between washes Dry shampoo on the roots only: DRY SHAMPOO.

VOLUMINIX and BLOOM SOFT together make up the Volumising Ritual.

How to dry it so the volume lasts

  1. Squeeze out water with a towel without rubbing.
  2. Dry the roots first, with your head upside down or lifting sections with your fingers.
  3. Finish with warm air and a burst of cool air to set it.
  4. Avoid oils and masks on the roots.

What to avoid

  • Conditioners and masks on the roots.
  • Heavy silicones in leave-in products.
  • Washing with very hot water.
  • Sleeping with wet hair: it gets flattened at the roots.
