What order to apply hair products in

Having the right products and using them in the wrong order throws away half their effect. This is the order, and the logic behind it.

Short answer: The order is: first, whatever cares for the scalp before washing (oil or scalp scrub); next, shampoo; then conditioner or mask from mid-lengths to ends; and, to finish, leave-in mist on damp hair. The rule: you cleanse first and hydrate afterwards.

In short

  • Before washing: oil or scalp scrub, on the scalp.
  • In the shower: shampoo and then conditioner or mask.
  • After the shower: leave-in mist and drying.

The full order

Step Product Frequency
1 Scalp oil (ROMERO SERUM) 2-3 times a week
2 Scalp scrub (MINT DETOX) Once a week
3 Shampoo Every wash
4 Conditioner, or mask (MASK REPAIR) once a week Every wash
5 Leave-in mist (KERAGLOSS) Every wash

You do not need to use every step on the same day. The oil and the scrub are best used on different days.

If you want to start with the minimum

Shampoo and conditioner. Once that base is working, add a weekly step: scrub if the roots get weighed down, mask if the ends are dry.

The shower routine, step by step

  1. Wet your hair thoroughly with lukewarm water.
  2. Shampoo at the roots, massage for one minute and rinse.
  3. Squeeze out the water with your hands.
  4. Conditioner or mask from mid-lengths to ends, then rinse.
  5. Towel-dry by squeezing, not rubbing.
  6. Leave-in mist from mid-lengths to ends, then dry your hair.

Outside the shower

  • Dry shampoo: only on non-wash days and only at the roots.
  • Scalp oil: always before a wash, never after.
  • Heat protectant: if you use straighteners or a very hot hairdryer, it goes on just before the heat.
  • Oil for the ends: one drop on dry hair, at the very end and away from the roots.

Which Nitiel product fits

The Rutina Nitiel brings together the two basic steps: the purifying shampoo RESET WASH and the conditioner DAILY SOFT. Both are vegan. It is the starting point if you do not have a routine yet.

Frequently asked questions

Are the scrub and the oil used on the same day?

Better not. Both are applied before washing; alternate days so you do not overload the scalp.

Mask before or after conditioner?

Instead of it. On mask day there is no need for conditioner.

How long should you wait between products?

In the shower, not at all: rinse one out and apply the next. Only the pre-wash oil needs time, at least thirty minutes.

Where does dry shampoo fit in the routine?

Not in the shower at all: use it on non-wash days, only at the roots, to stretch your wash by a day or two.
