Leave-in mist: what it is for and how to use it

It is the last step in the routine and the one most people skip. A leave-in mist does not replace conditioner: it does something different.

Short answer: A leave-in mist is a lightweight product that you spray onto damp hair after the shower and do not rinse out. It detangles, adds shine and keeps frizz under control during the day. Four or five sprays from mid-lengths to ends are enough.

In short

  • Apply it to damp hair, after conditioner and before drying.
  • It is not rinsed out: it stays in the hair.
  • Four or five sprays, from mid-lengths to ends.

How to use it

  1. Towel-dry your hair, without rubbing.
  2. Spray from mid-lengths to ends, from about twenty centimetres away.
  3. Comb through to distribute it.
  4. Leave to air-dry or use a hairdryer.

On the second day you can top it up on dry hair to bring back the shine.

How it differs from conditioner

Conditioner is rinsed out and softens there and then. The mist stays in and keeps working during the day. On fine hair, the mist alone is sometimes enough; on dry or long hair, use both.

Leave-in mist or cream: which to choose

Mist Cream
Texture Liquid, sprayed on Rich, worked in with your hands
Best for Fine, normal or easily weighed-down hair Thick, very dry or curly hair
Amount Four or five sprays A chickpea-sized amount
Effect Detangles and adds shine without weight Nourishes more and defines

Common mistakes

  • Putting it on the roots: it goes from mid-lengths to ends.
  • Spraying it on dripping-wet hair: it gets diluted. Towel-dry first.
  • Using too much: hair ends up heavy. Start with a little and add more if needed.
  • Saving it for dry hair: it spreads more evenly on damp, towel-dried hair. On dry hair, use it only for touch-ups.

Frequently asked questions

Does the mist make hair greasy?

No, if you apply it from mid-lengths to ends and do not go over four or five sprays.

Does it protect against hairdryer heat?

We do not present it as a heat protectant. If you use straighteners or a hairdryer at high temperature, add a dedicated heat protectant.

Can you use a leave-in mist every day?

Yes. Apply it after every wash and, on non-wash days, a light touch-up on dry hair is enough.

Does a leave-in mist work on curly hair?

Yes. On curls it works best on very damp hair, scrunched in afterwards. If your curls are very dry, pair it with a cream.
